Teaching Experience
After School French Program at Harper Elementary
Fall 2014
As part of the French 365 course, students were split into small groups to team teach a foreign language to elementary students in an after school program. The goal was to encourage and foster an interest in foreign languages in the elementary students. Through this experience, I gained valuable knowledge about lesson planning, incorporating Total Physical Response activities and Krashen’s five hypotheses, as well as the benefits of team teaching.
Observations at Harrison High School
Fall 2014
As part of the Education 383 and 384 courses, I was assigned to a 10th grade English Honors class at Harrison High School to observe and gain field experience. As part of the experience, I not only observe the classroom management and environment, but also help in implementing lessons. Through this, I have learned my strengths and weaknesses in the classroom and how to address both.
Tutored Plaza Park International Prep Academy
Spring 2013
As part of the Education courses 283 and 284, students were given field experience by tutoring in after school homework help programs. Through this tutoring program, I gained experience working one on one with students. Many of the students simply needed help with English, math, and history homework.
Summer Honors Program at Indiana State University
Summer 2010
I completed a Summer Honors Seminar in Elementary Education at Indiana State University. As part of the seminar, I worked with children who were enrolled in Indiana State University's Camp Invention. I was assigned to the Lost Treasure room, where we created games that helped children work together and think outside the box for solutions to the game. During the Seminar, I learned about the INTASC Principles and Indiana's Academic Standards.
